Inspired by Mandarino di Amalfi Acqua

It opens exactly the way you'd hope: mandarin, real and juicy and slightly sweet, with grapefruit and bergamot sharpening it and blackcurrant bud adding a green bitterness that stops it from turning into orange juice. Spearmint and tarragon lift the whole thing into something cooler than a citrus has any right to be.
Then the herbs take over. Basil, thyme, clary sage, wildflowers — this is the part that makes it Mediterranean rather than just fresh. It smells like warm air moving over dry hillside plants. Orange blossom and jasmine soften it, shiso leaf adds a strange bright twist, and black pepper keeps it from going soapy.
Underneath all of it: vetiver, musk, amber. Earthy and skin-like, warm without being heavy. It's what keeps a citrus fragrance from evaporating into nothing — the thing that stays close to you after the brightness burns off.
It's soapy in the good way. Clean the way linen dried outside is clean. Bright, but never loud.
